Does installing solar panels compromise a tile roof?

How much is the integrity of a concrete tile roof compromised with installing solar panels? I understand they must be anchored, with some difficulty, to the roof frame below the tiles.

Even tile roofs typically have vents, like for drains, or your stove hood.

For solar panels, you’re right, some tiles are removed, and the standoffs are attached directly to the underlying rafters. The standoffs are then flashed just like any other vent, to be waterproofed.

I found the youtube video below showing such an install. Note that I’m not endorsing the particular company that did it, just mentioning it as an example.

global warming is our present problem, one cause is the use of fossil fuel to produce electricity and the exhaust of vehicles. If we can produce more electricity using solar power and convert some automobiles to use electricity maybe the warming maybe controlled.

Yes, but it will likely take many years of research and development to get to something to provide the amount of energy currently provided by fossil fuel. Electric power for automobiles is a good idea, but remember most of the electricity is created in a power plant that burns fossil fuels. The only technology that is out there that is a viable replacement for fossil fuels is nuclear fission.

You really need to look at your energy useage, that will give you an idea of the scale of your solar power instalation. I can save however that if you buy the parts and assemble them yourself you’ll be paying about $150 per 1000w output, compared to from $1,200 to $1,500 for the same wattage if you buy prefabricated units and have them installed. I recently did this, if interested you can check out http://www.earth4power.biz which is where I got my schematics. It also includes sources for the cheapest materials.

I have a friend from Bulgaria ( Europe ) who would like to buy a 20 ft container of used solar panls

I’ve got 10 used collectors on my roof. They are occasionally available from company’s selling solar equipment or scrap yards.

Many collectors became available when the tax rebates from the Carter era ended and the systems required more upkeep and expense than the owners were willing to provide. Mine came from a school.

Most recently I came across a large group of used panel at this web site. Note that this was some time ago and I have no idea if they still have them or they were salvaged as scrap copper.

I am considering to build my own solar roofing tiles (they are kinda like solar panels) and just wondering if anybody has had any previous experience with it?

If so, please tell me approx how much was the total cost of materials and how long it took you?

I need solar panels to cover my roof instead of just having it on a little section.

You need to get a quote from somone in your area. There are just WAY too many factors that affect the cost of solar panel installation.
