I’ve found some $50-80 solar panels for 15 watts of power used to keep ATV or boat batteries charged. Will these panels be able to be used to power my on-at-dusk light bulbs or will I have to buy other adaptive equipment?

This would be my first solar panel purchase and I’m wanting to be able to add panels as I can and as I learn how to use them effectively.

To run lights…you will need solar panels which charge the batteries and an inverter to run the lights…the lights will have to be wired to this…(this is just a basic rundown)…for more info go to your local store…check yellow pages..to discuss what you will need at a specialized store for solar (not hardware store)..then you will have a better idea of what you need and how it works in more detail.

I need to replace my roof. I was hoping it will survive this winter (so that I can use my tax rebate to get new one in sprint), but first rain proved me wrong. I was originally planning to go "green" with new "green" roofs.

What are my "green" options? – I was specifically thinking about "solar roof". I understand that there is an option to get your whole roof to collect solar power (not just small set of panels, but whole roof).

my roof is about 900 sq. feet standard "tar&gravel". zip code is 94112.

Was curious for reasons im not even sure why but i was wanting to find out all i can bout making a home made solar panel…

Just want to see if it’ll work and for my own curiousity

I found portable solar panels used for boats etc. and was wondering how I could effectly use them for my home instead. If you have used them in the past, please tell how they worked (good or bad).

Most people think all one needs is some solar panels to make power. It doesn’t usually work that way. On a boat it is easy because most boats use batteries and DC power.

If all you want to do is make DC power, you will need a battery to hook your portable unit / units to. You can then use the battery to supply power to something that uses battery power. You may need a voltage converter if the device is not 12 volt.

i have a seminar on that, please send me informatary websites or reports , thank you!

Heres a good website

Good Luck

I wish to build a solar panel for domestic i.e. in the absence of electricity the same can be used to run fan, tv, computer if not A/c and refrig. How to do the same and what will be the cost involved?

Solar panel cannot be built at home…But you can of course buy one. Also if its your hobby and you are doing it just for fun, then forget it. Solar panels are very expensive and a small panel with an output of 1.5V will cost you around 15-20 AUD. Imagine how many you need to run a 240V fan. Also there are large commercially sold solar panels and you can get a GOVT. rebate (check website) if you buy from GOVT. registered resellers. You can get upto $8000 rebate. This is very expensive stuff to buy as you need batteries and a new electricity back up system installed at your place. BUT once installed with a very little maintenance, you can enjoy the benefits.

Hi there, my father just bought a house that has solar panels on the roof to heat the water for his pool. The water goes through pipes by the panels and flows back into the pool. I was wondering if there is any way to use that solar energy for other areas of the house. The panels were put in when the house was built in the mid 80′s and the house is in Central Florida/E. Orlando.

if roof tiles were made of solar panel materials at a similar cost as an normal roofing tile or slate it would be easy for the government to meet its carbon footprint and cut green house gas.
if 1 tile made 0.5volts then just think how much power a house or street could make.
sell the excess back to the power grid saving the consumer cash.
i just cant find out the costs for a solar cell.

Hi John

I know how hard it is to cut down power costs especially if you are on
a tight budget and on pre power.

If i can not make solar panel in the home then i request you to kindly tell me to how to produce elctricity in the home

You don’t BUILD a solar panel… that would not be cost effective. Do a GOOGLE SEARCH on SOLAR PANELS… that will give you company names and then you can contact them for information about living on 12 volts… you DO understand batteries, invertors and charging systems, I assume.. because that is critical knowledge for installing a solar panel system in a home that will actually WORK.

What should I use between the solar panel array and the battery shed on the ground? Also, what type of wire should I use to connect each of the panels? I know a lot of panels come with plug and play connectors but I understand a lot of people replace them with…something.

Normally all the wiring is THNN. The wire size depends on how much voltage and at what amount of amps you are running through the wires. The wires from the solar array has to be 256% of the rated power out put.

There is a lot to it.
